HISTORIC SENIOR
The Historic Senior TT represents the golden era of World Championship racing at the TT featuring the 500cc machines that defined the 1960’s and the start of the 1970’s.
This is the class with the biggest variety of machinery of them all and one of the few races where pit stop strategy can come into play.
The Historic Senior TT brings together four strokes, two strokes, single cylinders, twin cylinders, triples, and four cylinders, plus a rotary!.
The exotic multi cylinder Italian machines from the likes of Paton and MV Agusta are without doubt at a significant speed advantage over their primarily British competition. However they are thirsty and can’t complete the four lap race without having to stop to take on fuel.
Meanwhile the single-cylinder machines - championed by the British manufacturers such as Norton, AJS, Royal Enfield and Matchless – dominate the field. And whilst they might be down on power, what they lack in top end speed they make up in fuel efficiency.
With no need for a pit stop they save around 45 seconds, leaving them with a straight, 4-lap dash for the finish line.
All that being said, 150-miles is a long way for these old machines and to finish first, first you must finish…
