THE MOUNTAIN COURSE: SECTOR 3
Sector 3 of the Mountain Course starts fast and ends slow, taking the riders from Ballaugh through to Parliament Square in Ramsey.
SULBY AND GINGER HALL
Now over halfway through the lap, at 20 miles from the startline, Sulby and the Ginger Hall offer high speed action for those positioned throughout the village.
Notably here is the Sulby Speed Trap, timings which are noted on the timing site, to see just how fast the riders are pushing when flat out down the Sulby Straight.
After passing over Sulby Bridge, one of the more popular viewing points along with the Sulby Crossroads, the racers make a sweeping left hander away from the Ginger Hall pub and onto the bumpy section through Kerrowmoar.
CONKER TREES
2 miles of bumpy road onwards riders reach the famous K-Tree, so called because of the K painted on it, to warn of the kerb that juts out on the left hand side.
The land that surrounds this iconic wheelie spot is predominantly privately owned so be sure to verify that you’re in a permitted spot on a permitted day.
Ask a marshal if you’re unsure and get there early to allow for time to move to another spot.
MILNTOWN
A mile closer to Ramsey is Milntown, the bridge with spectacular viewing of competitors leaping the Auldyn River into Ramsey.
On the inside of the course is Ramsey Grammar School which offers great vantage points of Schoolhouse Corner, where riders often drift into the bus lay-by on the exit.
PARLIAMENT SQUARE
At the bottom of the straight after Schoolhouse Corner, Parliament Square offers a great place to watch, with great food and drink options on both the inside and outside of the course.
The riders brake hard into this right-hander before accelerating across the square and sweeping out via a fast left-hander. The square has produced a number of great clips when riders have come in hot and had to take the corner almost sideways.
Whether watching from the inside or the outside of the course here, it’s accessible via the footbridge at the bus station.
