THE MOUNTAIN COURSE: SECTOR 5
Sector 5 is a fairly short one on the Isle of Man TT Races’ Mountain Course but captures some incredibly quick and technical racing, and stunning views.
BRANDYWELL
Brandywell is the highest point of the Mountain Course, just half a mile from the Bungalow tram station.
The Brandywell junction provides spectators with a long open view of the riders accelerating up Hailwood Rise from the Bungalow before sweeping around the left-hander.
The exposed nature of this section makes it more susceptible to changing weather conditions, which can dramatically affect the grip levels and visibility, adding to the unpredictability of this section.
KEPPEL AND KATE’S
Another fast, action packed spot to spectate from, Keppel and Kate’s is two miles on from Brandywell, just past the 33rd mile marker.
At Keppel Gate, fans can watch the bikes approaching all the way from the 33rd before tipping into the tricky left hander and dropping down the hill to Kate’s cottage.
This is the place for immense views, immense speeds and immense skill.
CREG NY BAA
The next half a mile is one that is famous and maybe even synonymous with the entire Mountain Course.
Creg ny Baa, found shortly after the 34th Milestone, translates to English as "rock of the cows." It doesn’t take much imagination to see why, with its surrounding fields crisscrossed by stony lanes and craggy outcrops.
But it is the high-speed action, wide vistas, and local hospitality that have always drawn the crowds: hundreds line the roadside from Kate’s Cottage all the way down to the 35th Milestone. No wonder the atmosphere here feels so timeless.
Those stationed after the pub will get an eye level view of the sweeping right hand bend, and the exit down to Brandish, where hedge cutting and tight lines are very popular.
HILLBERRY
Hillberry is the end point of the Kate’s to Creg-ny-Baa run and offers monumental views right from the top all the way to the bottom.
With grandstand seating, or behind the wall viewing, you can watch the bikes fly from Brandish, through the super fast right-hander and on up to Cronk-ny-Mona.
