TT Bike and Car Hire

CAR AND MOTORBIKE HIRE

If you want full freedom for the TT fortnight, a hire car or motorcycle is your best bet. There are a number of operators in the Island, the majority of which operate from or near the airport.

At booking, some providers will deliver your vehicle to The Sea Terminal, so there is convenience for however you choose to reach the Island.

For motorcycle hire, bikes are usually charged by the day, and tend to have a minimum of 3 days hire during the TT. You will need to purchase appropriate motorcycle gear to complete your rental if you don’t bring your own.

CONSIDERATIONS WITH DRIVING ON THE ISLAND OVER TT

DRIVING ON THE LEFT

The Isle of Man, like the UK, drives on the left-hand side of the road. Ensure to adhere to that for your entire stay.

MPH VS KMH

The Isle of Man’s speed limits are measured in miles, not kilometres an hour. It’s important when driving your own vehicle to be aware of the difference between the two.

20mph 32kmh
30mph 48kmh
40mph 64kmh
50mph 80kmh
60mph 97kmh

PARKING

Bear in mind when choosing to hire a vehicle that much of the Island operates on a disc-parking basis, whereby you mark the time of arrival on your disc and you have however many hours displayed in the street before you will be fined. This will be included with the hire care.

Also consider where you will park when you are overnight in your accommodation. Depending on the location, you may have to park elsewhere and walk or book a space in advance.

When parking up and leaving your car for a day of racing, be certain that you aren’t parked in a way that blocks an access road or is on the course. We’d hate to delay the racing to tow the car!

REFUELLING

There are several petrol stations and EV chargers Island wide. The fuel rates differ by brand and location, whilst the EV price per unit is the same across the island, except on the rapid chargers.

All EV chargers use PodPoint for payment so be sure to download the app and make an account in advance of arrival if needed.

ROAD CLOSURES

Finally, be mindful of the road closures during TT. If you’re staying inside the course, and will want to use the car, you will need to park it in a safe location outside of the course. You will also not be able to drive back inside the course except when access is allowed.
