2025 CLASSIC TT: CELEBRATING JOEY DUNLOP’S FINAL TT

The year 2000 is forever etched in Isle of Man TT history. At the dawn of a new millennium, Joey Dunlop, already a legend, delivered a performance that still gives us chills. Racing a factory Honda SP1 in the Formula 1 TT, he defied the odds, silenced doubters, and took a victory that remains one of the most unforgettable moments on the Mountain Course.

But Joey didn’t stop there. That year, he pulled off a stunning hat-trick, adding 250cc and 125cc victories to his tally. With his 26th and final TT win, he closed the book on an extraordinary career, leaving behind a legacy that still inspires riders and fans alike.

Now, 25 years later, you have the chance to relive that magic. The 2025 Classic TT is bringing Joey’s final TT to life through immersive experiences, exhibitions, and tributes that will take you straight back to the heart of his legendary ride.

The Greatest Race

Joey’s 2000 Formula 1 TT run wasn’t just another win – it was a statement. At 48 years old, he went head-to-head with a new wave of hungry young riders, including David Jefferies and John McGuinness, proving that experience, instinct, and raw talent still ruled the Mountain Course.

For six laps of the 37.73-mile circuit, Joey set a pace no one could match. He crossed the line nearly 15 seconds ahead of Michael Rutter, with McGuinness taking third.

But this victory meant more than just a trophy. At a time when the sport was changing –faster bikes, younger riders, and new technology – Joey showed us all that racing isn’t just about speed. It’s about heart, skill, and a deep, almost spiritual connection with the Mountain Course. That day, he didn’t just win – he reminded us why he was "The King of the Mountain.”

Tribute on Two Wheels

This August, we’ll honor Joey in the best way possible – on the Mountain Course. On Friday, 29th August, Michael Dunlop, Joey’s nephew and now the most successful TT rider in history, will take on a special demonstration lap aboard a replica of Joey’s 2000 factory Honda VTR SP1. Michael has made his own mark on TT history, but this lap is more than just a tribute. It’s a moment that connects past and present, linking two generations of Dunlop greatness. You won’t want to miss it.
